seen it once before when i opted to run both my 380's off of one relay(yea it was dumb i know but need a temp fix) check teh amprage draw of whatever teh relay is running and make sure it is not exciding the relay also check the ground on the relay a bad ground can cause them to get hot.

I've went thru 2 relays in a months time on the wife's Colorado(rig horns). It's got a Thomas 315 or 327 comp from ART, probably 8 yrs old. I been thinking about getting one of those 80 amp relays, just so I don't have to work on it any more.

i am going to redo all the connections but its just one viair 480 on a 40 amp fuse, it started getting hot melts inside and blows the fuse from the loose connection. sucks but its rainin so i cant do anything until the weather clears up. i remember the occasional relay doin it just seams to doin it way too often now.

was just looking and the amprage draw is 20 amps show a 30 amp relay should be sufficant. Viair does however recomend a 40 amp fuse. I would check all the connections anytype of loose connections could cause the relay to open and close very rapidly probly fast enough you would never notice it. It is possible that it may just be a bad relay and replacing it can fix the problem(I would inspect the connections to keep from having to replace the relay multiple times).
